Hi my name is Colette Morris and I am a proud mother of two sons. I was born in the UK to parents of Carribbean decent. Why did they have to leave the sunny isles for cold England? Lol! Anyway I grew up mainly in London (north west to be exact), had a very Christian background. I went to ballet school aged 7 and learned tap dancing as well as attending piano classes from the age of 7 to the age to 15, every little girls dream of being a ballerina but while at school I loved sports and gymnastics, which I turned my hand to. I was captain of the athletics team, and the netball team as well as captain of the ’rounders team’. I was a great team player and leader even at such a young age it showed. I have always been a positive thinker and thank my dad for instilling that in me. He taught me to be ‘independent’ and to learn to ‘think for myself’. He encouraged me and my siblings to do our best, and to be the best that we could be. He made us believe that we could achieve anything if we put our minds to it and focussed on it. This philosophy still rings true for me today, and one I have also instilled in my own children. My dad enouraged me alot and even when I thought they were wild ideas, he encouraged me to explore them. I thank him for that.
I wouldnt call myself an entrepreneur back then, I was just care free and enjoying life. I bought my first property at aged 21, a two bedroom maisonette, which need a whole load of work as it had not been lived in for 5 years, and needed complete revamping. I left home and took three years to make this place a ‘home’. Enjoyed the nice car, great job and all that comes with it, then became a mom.
I went on to have two boys five years apart and as every parent knows, kids are for life, they take up time and energy, but no matter what you love them anyway 
My journey in network marketing has not been an easy one, let’s face it how many people have an easy ride in this business?
However, we see alot of leaders and top income earners who make it look so easy to get to where they are. Behind their success is one of failure. Let’s face it, if you don’t fail, how will you learn to succeed.
So here’s my journey! Back in 2000 I was happily married mother of two boys aged 5 and 11 when my world changed. My marriage fell apart and I found myself left with my two sons and a large mortgage to pay on my own.
You can imagine the turmoil I was going through, but in my work life I continued to present a cheery picture so that most of my colleagues did not even realise that I was going through a marriage break up. I was a project manager for a large corporate bank, and was in charge of a major project at the time.
The pressure for me to focus on my job in the day time, then deal with my situation at home in the evenings was enormous, I honestly dont know how I managed to get through such a difficult time in my life. As a mother you want to keep your home stable and ensure that you nurture your kids in a positive way. I had to hold myself together for them, in front of them. At nights I cried myself to sleep.
Then came a wind of change!
It was one day whilst talking to a friend when I said I needed to find a way to earn more money, but I wanted to do this from home using my PC, that a friend suggested network marketing. I had never heard of network marketing, but if I was able to work from home and with my PC, then yes I would look into it.
Research, Research, Research
I researched online for about 6 months, finding out about different companies and thinking about what type of home business would suit me. I’m an Analyst, and so detail is something I am good at getting down to. I spoke to several different reps from all sorts of companies until I found a company I was happy with. The company fitted with my ethics, and what I felt comfortable to retail online and offline. It was ….. you guessed it a Nutrition Company. I needed to lose a few pounds anyway, so thought if the products work on me, then I could retail it to others who I knew would be interested.
If your focussed and your ‘why’ is strong you will succeed! In my first month of starting up my online business selling nutrition products I made £500 not alot I know, but this helped with paying the mortgage at a time when money was short. I continued to do well with my nutrition business and by month four had made £1500 and qualified for a trip abroad to Spain promoting the companies annual marketing event, I also qualified for an exclusive party held for top volume producers of which they said I was one…. who would have thought it? This gave me an insight to what to expect from the ‘other side’. Why was I so successful? Looking back, it is because I was focussed, I needed the extra money at the time, my why was my kids and the fact that I needed to keep a roof over their head no matter what.
I was with this company for 5 years consistently making between £1500 and £2000 per month, but seemed to get stuck, I just couldnt seem to break through the £2k barrier. Maybe it was because I was still working my business part time, and my full time job was getting in the way, but £2000 per months was not enough for me to replace my current income. I was excited because I could begin to dream again, I could see the possiblities of working from home for myself, but having a full time job got in the way. I became frustrated at the fact that I could not seem to make anymore income that this, and looked for other ways of making ‘more money’. It didn’t help not having a mentor who was there for me to coach and guide and provide useful advise on how I could utilise the internet more practically, it was hard trying to find out for myself, how many of you have been there?
I ended up trying out two more MLM companies in different industries before I finally found myself with Numis Network and through colleagues in other industries I also found a great marketing system which is helping to propel my online business to new dimensions. Many Network Marketers who I’ve come across have been in three or more network marketing companies, I thought it was just me! It’s not something to be ashamed of, but if you dont have the right support, the right community around you, then you are bound to failure and frustration, I should know I’ve been there, done that and have the t-shirt!
Network Marketing is not easy, it takes time and effort and focus. You’ve probably heard all this before, but from experience its true. You’ve probably also heard the phrase “Never Give Up”
Another true saying, you never now how close you are to success if you give up, so as long as you have a stragtegy and are able to focus you will succeed. I have learnt a hell of a lot on my MLM journey, paid out thousands in training, courses and attending events and lessons learned have propelled me to succeed even more.
Where am I today?
I have gone through alot in the last 10 years, it has not been easy in many ways and areas, but today I am now the proud SEO of my company who specialize in personal branding, Search Engine Optimization, creating sales and retailing marketing systems on the internet. My passion includes; traveling, sports, personal development, helping others improve their lives and giving back to society.
Some of my personal and business accomplishments are, completing a 13 mile walk in aid of Cancer Research in 2011, competing in the London Triathalon 2006 and 2007 and raising money for charity at these events, completing the Anthony Robbins Challenge of walking across hot coals, traveling extensively to Europe, America and the Caribbean (28 Cities), coached over 4,000 business owners at live seminars and online.
I was honoured to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, and I am also a valued member of The Better Network Association. I am an accomplished writer and expert author on Ezine Articles, Amazine Articles and Evan Carmichael.
